Medical residents and students attend and observe specialized procedures during their rotations. However, observing cases is limited to one or two observers at a time due to OR crowding.

Using TeleVU, the surgeon in the academic center performed a mitral valve repair procedure, and medical residents virtually observed the case in real time.

The surgeon successfully completed two cases with the residents in communication with the physician via TeleVU to ask questions and enhance their learning while they all had an optimal view of the procedure on their screens.

Also, from an infection control perspective, only the clinical care team was present in the OR, with no overcrowding at the patient’s bedside.
